Qasr al-Bint is the main temple of Nabataean Petra and its best-preserved free-standing building, built around the turn of the 1st century BC and AD and probably dedicated to the god Dushara. Its walls still rise about 23 metres. The name, "Palace of the Daughter", comes from a Bedouin story about a pharaoh's daughter. It stands at the far end of the Colonnaded Street, beyond the Temenos Gate, with a great altar in front of its steps. Jabal al-Habis rises behind it, and the path to Ad Deir starts close by.
