Al-Habis is a small fort built by the Crusaders in the early 12th century on the summit of Jabal al-Habis, the rock that rises behind Qasr al-Bint in the centre of Petra. Its few walls and towers kept watch over the valley below. Rock-cut steps lead up from near Qasr al-Bint, and the climb takes around half an hour, with views over the heart of the city.
