The Temple of the Winged Lions stands on the north side of Wadi Musa, facing the Great Temple across the valley. It was built in the 1st century AD and takes its name from the capitals carved with winged lions that were found among its ruins. It was destroyed in the earthquake of 363 AD and excavated from the 1970s. Steps lead up from the Colonnaded Street to the temple platform, where column bases and walls remain, with views back over the city centre.
