The Nymphaeum was the great public fountain of Petra, built in the 2nd century AD at the start of the Colonnaded Street. Water carried in channels from the Siq fed its semicircular basin, and it would have been faced with columns and statues. Only its foundations remain today, shaded by a large old tree, at the point where the main path turns into the Colonnaded Street.
