The Djinn Blocks are great square blocks of stone carved out of the rock beside the path from the Petra visitor centre to the Siq. The Bedouin called them djinn blocks, as homes of spirits, but they are thought to be early Nabataean funerary monuments, and some have burial chambers inside. About 25 such blocks stand around Petra. Three of them line the path just before the Obelisk Tomb, and they are the first monuments most visitors see.
