The Royal Tombs are a row of great tomb facades cut into the west face of Jabal al-Khubtha, looking across the centre of Petra. They include the Urn Tomb with its arched terrace, the Silk Tomb, named for the bands of colour in its sandstone, the Corinthian Tomb and the three-storey Palace Tomb, with the tomb of the Roman governor Sextius Florentinus a little further on. Most date from the 1st century AD. Steps lead up from the Colonnaded Street to the terraces in front of the tombs, which give one of the best views over the city. The trail up Jabal al-Khubtha to the viewpoint above the Treasury begins nearby.
