This mosque-shrine at Udhruh, east of Petra, is honoured as a maqam of Abu Musa al-Ash'ari, the Companion and Qur'an reciter who governed Basra and Kufa. Udhruh is remembered as the place of the arbitration of 37 AH (658), in which he took part. He passed away in Kufa or Makkah, so this site honours his memory. The shrine stands near the Roman fort of Udhruh and close to Jabal al-Tahkim, the hill remembered as the place of the arbitration.
