The Hammam of Sokollu Mehmed Pasha was the second public hammam of Ottoman Makkah, built in 980 AH (1572) for the grand vizier Sokollu Mehmed Pasha by the architect Sinan, on the road from Jeddah near Bab al-Umrah. For that reason it was known in the city as Hammam al-Umrah, and it was described by Evliya Çelebi in 1672 and marked on Burckhardt's plan of Makkah in 1815. The hammam was taken down in 1975 when Masjid al-Haram was enlarged. Its site lies about 200 metres west of the Ka'bah.
