The Shamiyyah market, on the north-western side of Masjid al-Haram, was where jewellery and valuable goods were sold in Ottoman Makkah. Much of what was traded in the city came from Basra, Egypt, Bombay, Yemen and Syria, and most of its merchants were foreigners living in Makkah. The market no longer exists. Its site, about 240 metres north-west of the Ka'bah, lies within the northern extension of Masjid al-Haram.
