Bab Ibrahim was the largest gate of Masjid al-Haram, on its south-western side, set in the extension known as the Ziyadah of Bab Ibrahim. Al-Fasi records that it was named after a tailor called Ibrahim who sat beside it, while Ibn Asakir and Ibn Jubayr linked the name to Nabi Ibrahim. It had a single great door, and an inscription recorded that its building was ordered by the Mamluk Sultan Qansuh al-Ghawri. The gate was removed when Masjid al-Haram was enlarged in the twentieth century. Its site lies inside the present mosque, about 110 metres south-west of the Ka'bah.
