Dar al-Nadwah, the House of Assembly, was built by Qusayy ibn Kilab, the forefather of Quraysh, on the northern side of the Ka'bah, with its door facing the Ka'bah. The leaders of Quraysh met here to decide on war and peace, to send out their caravans and to hold marriages, and it was here that they gathered before the Hijrah and agreed on their plan against Nabi Muhammad ﷺ. Mu'awiyah later bought the house, and the Umayyad and early Abbasid caliphs stayed in it when they came for Hajj. In the reign of the Abbasid caliph al-Mu'tadid (r. 279-289 AH) it was joined to Masjid al-Haram, and its ground now lies within the mosque on the northern side of the Ka'bah.
