Bab al-Ziyadah was the gate of the Ziyadah, the extension on the northern side of Masjid al-Haram made on the ground of Dar al-Nadwah by the Abbasid caliph al-Mu'tadid in 284 AH. Al-Mu'tadid also built a minaret beside it, which the Mamluk Sultan al-Ashraf Barsbay renewed in 826 AH, and it remained one of the seven minarets of the old mosque. The gate and its minaret were removed when Masjid al-Haram was enlarged in the twentieth century. Their site lies inside the present mosque, about 100 to 110 metres north-west of the Ka'bah.
