About Fort of al-Qamus (Khaybar)

Al-Qamus was one of the strongest fortresses of Khaybar and belonged to the family of Ibn Abi al-Huqayq. In many accounts it held out until Nabi Muhammad ﷺ gave the banner to Sayyiduna Ali, who led the assault in which the fort was taken in 7 AH. Among those taken captive at al-Qamus was Safiyyah bint Huyayy, who accepted Islam and became Sayyidah Safiyyah, one of the Mothers of the Believers. The fort stands on a rocky hill above the old town of Khaybar, and locals also call it Marhab's Fort, after the famous Khaybar warrior defeated by Sayyiduna Ali. Parts of its walls and rooms remain, and it is one of the main sights for visitors to Khaybar.
