About Jabal Thawr of Madinah (Northern Boundary of the Haram)

This small reddish hill stands just north of Mount Uhud and marks the northern limit of the sanctuary of Madinah, which Nabi Muhammad ﷺ declared to stretch from Ayr to Thawr. Some early scholars were unsure which hill was meant, because the better-known Jabal Thawr is in Makkah, but the people of Madinah preserved its name and it is now clearly identified. It is a different place from the mountain and cave of Thawr in Makkah, where the Prophet ﷺ hid during the Hijrah. The hill can be seen from the roads north of Uhud and is of interest to anyone wanting to understand the boundaries of the Haram of Madinah.
