Wadi al-Mujib is the great gorge, known in ancient times as the Arnon, that cuts through the plateau east of the Dead Sea. It is the heart of the Mujib Biosphere Reserve, the lowest nature reserve in the world. The river runs down through deep sandstone walls to the Dead Sea, and the water-filled Siq trail near the shore is one of Jordan's most popular walks. The King's Highway crosses the gorge between Madaba and Karak.
