Umm ar-Rasas is the walled town of Kastron Mefaa, inscribed by UNESCO, which was inhabited from the Roman period into the early Islamic centuries. Many of its mosaic floors were laid in the Umayyad and early Abbasid periods, and one of them shows the towns of the region in the eighth century. The site includes the walled camp, the mosaic floors under a protective roof, and a tall stone tower standing alone to the north. It lies south-east of Madaba on the edge of the desert.
