Qasr Bshir is a Roman fort built at the end of the 3rd century AD on the desert frontier east of the Karak plateau. An inscription over its gate records its building under the emperor Diocletian, and it is one of the best-preserved Roman forts in the region. Its four corner towers and high walls stand almost complete around a central courtyard. It is reached by an unpaved track west of al-Qatrana.
