Qatrana Castle is an Ottoman fort built in 1531 in the reign of Sultan Suleyman as a station on the Syrian Hajj road. It guarded a large reservoir that filled with winter rains and watered the pilgrim caravans on their way to Makkah. The fort has been restored and has two storeys of rooms around a central courtyard. It stands in the town of al-Qatrana on the Desert Highway, and the reservoir lies beside it.
