Siq al-Barid, known as Little Petra, was a suburb of the Nabataean city where caravans halted on their way to Petra. Its rock-cut halls and houses line a narrow gorge. One of its halls keeps a rare painted ceiling with vines and birds. The site lies a few kilometres north of Petra, near the village of Beidha, and entry is free.
