This white-domed shrine on the summit of Jabal Harun, above Petra, is honoured as the grave of Nabi Harun, the brother of Nabi Musa. The present building dates from the Mamluk period, in 739 AH (1338), and the mountain has long been a place of visitation. The shrine is the highest point around Petra, at about 1,350 metres, and is reached by a long hike from the Petra valley or by a guided route from the south. The climb takes several hours and rewards visitors with views over the mountains of Sharah and Wadi Araba.
