The Snake Monument is a large block of rock carved into the shape of a coiled snake, standing on a base in the south of Petra. It is thought to be a Nabataean monument linked with the tombs nearby, perhaps as a guardian. It lies on the trail from the centre of Petra towards Jabal Harun, an exposed walk with little shade.
