The Kuršumlija, 'the lead-roofed', is the principal mosque of Maglaj and stands by the river Bosna in the old town. It was founded by Kalaun Yusuf Pasha, a native of Maglaj who rose to high office in the Ottoman state. Tradition dates it to 1560, while the historian Machiel Kiel has argued for the early seventeenth century. It is a domed mosque with a portico of three small domes and a stone minaret, and is considered one of the finest historic mosques in Bosnia. It was damaged when Prince Eugene of Savoy's army raided the valley in 1697 and was later repaired. Together with the fortress above it, it forms the heart of old Maglaj.
