Tešanj Fortress is one of the largest and best-preserved fortresses in Bosnia, set on a rocky hill above the town. It was built in the Middle Ages and later held and strengthened by the Ottomans, who kept a garrison here for centuries. The walls and towers have been restored, and inside are a small museum, an open-air amphitheatre used for summer concerts and a café. From the ramparts there are fine views over the old čaršija and the surrounding hills, and the visit takes about an hour.
