The Ferhadija in Tešanj is the endowment of Ferhad Bey, recorded in a waqf charter of the sixteenth century, and stands in the old bazaar below the town's great fortress. It is one of the oldest mosques in northern Bosnia. The mosque has a graveyard with old turbaned headstones, one of which local tradition links to Ferhad Bey's standard-bearer. Its setting at the foot of the castle hill, among the restored houses and shops of the čaršija, makes it a natural first stop on a walk through Tešanj.
