The Kajtaz House is a traditional Ottoman house in Mostar, said to date from the sixteenth century and still owned by descendants of the family who built it. It is tucked away in the lanes south of the Old Bridge, behind a high wall and a walled garden. Inside it keeps the classic division between the men's quarters for receiving guests and the women's family quarters, with original furniture, clothing, household goods and carved wooden ceilings. A member of the family shows visitors around and explains how the household lived, which makes it one of the most personal visits in Mostar.
