Kujundžiluk is the oldest bazaar street in Mostar, used for trade since the sixteenth century. Its name comes from the goldsmiths (kujundžije) who once made and sold their work here, and it runs along the eastern bank of the Neretva down to the Old Bridge. The street is paved with river stones polished smooth by centuries of feet, and lined with low stone shops with wooden shutters. Today it sells copper and brass work, carpets, jewellery, paintings and souvenirs, and its cafés look out over the river. It is busiest in the middle of the day, so early morning and evening are the best times for a quiet stroll.
