Mostar's sahat-kula is a tall stone clock tower from the Ottoman period, standing in the old town on the eastern bank of the Neretva. Clock towers like this one were built in Bosnian towns so that people could know the time for prayer and the opening and closing of the bazaar. It is a slender square tower of cut stone, a familiar landmark above the rooftops of the old town. It was damaged during the war and has since been restored. It is a short climb from the Old Bridge and a good starting point for exploring the upper lanes of the old town.
