Zayd ibn al-Khattab was the elder brother of Umar ibn al-Khattab and accepted Islam before him. He was among the first to emigrate to Madinah, where the Prophet ﷺ made him the brother of Ma'n ibn Adi of the Ansar, and he fought at Badr, Uhud, the Khandaq and every battle after them. He carried the banner of the Muslims at the Battle of al-Yamamah in 12 AH and was martyred there, and Umar used to say that his brother had gone before him in both Islam and martyrdom. His house stood in Makkah west of Masjid al-Haram. Nothing of it survives, and its site lies about 620 metres west of the Ka'bah.
