Al-Shubaykah is one of the old cemeteries of Makkah, about 700 metres west of the Ka'bah in the district of the same name. It dates back to the time before Islam, and for centuries it was used by particular families of Makkah rather than the public. Many of those who passed away in an epidemic that struck Makkah in the thirteenth century AH were also buried here. No burials have taken place here since the late nineteenth century. The walled cemetery lies a short walk from the western gates of Masjid al-Haram.
