Jabal Hindi Fort was one of the three forts that protected Makkah in the Ottoman period, on a hill to the north-west of Masjid al-Haram. It was built in 1221 AH (1806) under Sharif Ghalib, and was later repaired and enlarged into a strong fort by the governor Osman Nuri Pasha in 1300 AH. In the twentieth century it served as a school and then as a military post. The fort was taken down in 1429 AH (2008). Its site lies about 590 metres north-west of the Ka'bah.
