The Nuri Bimaristan of Aleppo is the hospital founded by Nur al-Din Zangi in the mid-twelfth century, one of the earliest hospitals of the city and a sister of the great Nuri hospital he built in Damascus. Together with the later Arghun al-Kamili hospital, it bears witness to the long history of medicine in Aleppo. The building stands near Bab Antakya in the Bahramiyya alley, close to the Bahramiyya Mosque. Its courtyard plan with rooms around a central pool follows the pattern of the medieval hospitals of Syria.
