The Bimaristan of Arghun al-Kamili is a Mamluk hospital built in 755 AH (1354) by Arghun al-Kamili, the Mamluk governor of Aleppo, as recorded in the inscription over its entrance. It stands between Bab Qinnasrin and the Great Mosque, near Khan al-Gumruk. It was one of the finest hospitals of Syria and Egypt in its time and was known for the care of the mentally ill, with quiet courtyards, fountains and small rooms arranged around them. The building has been closed for restoration.
