Khan Khayrbak is a late Mamluk caravanserai built in 920 AH (1514) by the emir Khayrbak, governor of Aleppo for the Mamluk sultan Qansuh al-Ghawri. It was one of the large commercial khans where caravans unloaded their goods in the heart of the old city. The khan stands in the Suwayqat Ali quarter within the old city walls, near the souqs that lead to the citadel. Its carved stone facade is a fine example of the last phase of Mamluk architecture in Aleppo, and it has been under restoration in recent years.
