Jami' al-Adiliyyah is one of the great Ottoman mosques of Aleppo, built between 1555 and 1557 by Muhammad Pasha, the governor of Aleppo, in the reign of Sultan Sulayman the Magnificent. It stands south-west of the Citadel in the al-Saffahiyyah quarter, with a large courtyard and fountain, a portico in front of the domed prayer hall and a slender Ottoman minaret. The mosque was also a centre of learning for generations of students. Volunteers and restorers have worked to repair it in recent years.
