Bab Antakya, the Antioch Gate, is the western gate of old Aleppo, named after the road to Antioch that began here. It stands on the site of a Byzantine gate and was rebuilt under the Ayyubids and Mamluks, and tradition holds that the Muslim army entered the city through it in the conquest. The gate opens straight into the long covered souqs of Aleppo, which run east from here towards the citadel. The Muqaddamiyya Madrasa, the Shu'aybiyya Mosque and the Nuri Bimaristan are a short walk away.
