Salman al-Farsi left Persia in search of the true religion and was sold into slavery before reaching Madinah, where he met Nabi Muhammad ﷺ and accepted Islam. To win his freedom he agreed with his owner to plant three hundred date palms and pay a sum of gold. The Prophet ﷺ helped him and, according to the well-known account, planted the young palms with his own hands, and they bore fruit within the year. This palm grove in the eastern farmlands of Madinah, near the old lands of Banu Qurayzah, is traditionally identified as Salman's garden. It is private farmland and is usually seen from the road, but it remains a popular stop for visitors who know the story of Salman's long journey to Islam and his freedom.
