The Naulakha Pavilion is a small white marble pavilion built in 1633 under Shah Jahan on the western side of the Sheesh Mahal courtyard in the Lahore Fort. Its name is said to come from its cost of nine lakh rupees, a great sum at the time. Its curved bangla roof, borrowed from the thatched huts of Bengal, is one of the earliest examples of the form in Mughal architecture. The marble walls are inlaid with fine floral designs in coloured stone, and the pavilion looks out over the old course of the Ravi to the north.
