The Alamgiri Gate is the main entrance to the Lahore Fort, built by Aurangzeb in 1673–74 facing the Badshahi Mosque across Hazuri Bagh. It takes its name from his title, Alamgir. The gateway is flanked by two massive semi-octagonal bastions topped with domed pavilions, and its arch was made wide and high enough for royal elephants to pass through. Visitors today usually enter the fort through it from Hazuri Bagh.
