Qasr al-Mushatta is a large unfinished Umayyad palace of the eighth century, usually linked with the caliph al-Walid II. Its richly carved stone facade was given to Germany in 1903 and now stands in the Museum of Islamic Art in Berlin. The site keeps its great brick halls, the enclosure walls and a mosque with a mihrab near the entrance. It lies beside Queen Alia Airport, south of Amman.
