This is the grave of Sayyiduna Ja'far ibn Abi Talib, the cousin of the Prophet ﷺ and brother of Sayyiduna Ali, who led the emigrants to Abyssinia and was martyred at Mu'tah in 8 AH (629). He is remembered by the name al-Tayyar. His grave lies in the large mosque complex at al-Mazar al-Janubi, south of Karak, built by the Royal Committee with a grand prayer hall, courtyards and a library. The graves of Zayd ibn Haritha and Abdullah ibn Rawaha are beside it.
