The old fortress of Ključ rises above the river Sana. In 1463 the last battle between the Bosnian and Ottoman armies was fought beneath its walls, after King Stjepan Tomašević had withdrawn here from Jajce, and it marked the end of the independent medieval kingdom of Bosnia. Under the Ottomans Ključ became a gathering point for campaigns towards Bihać and the seat of a captaincy, and the Tabor and Ljubica towers were enlarged. The fortress has three connected parts, and it was declared a national monument in 2003. It can be reached by car, with a car park at the top and wide views over the town.
