About Fatih Musalla, Kamengrad

This open-air prayer ground at Donji Kamengrad, near Sanski Most, is where tradition says Sultan Mehmed II al-Fatih led the first Friday prayer during his conquest of Bosnia, traditionally dated to 1463. An inscription on the mihrab records that the sultan set up a mihrab and minbar here, and that they were rebuilt in 1909. The mihrab stands under a wooden canopy on four oak columns, with stepped stones beside it serving as a minbar, and a Muslim graveyard surrounds the site. The musalla and its graveyard are a national monument, and each year the congregations of the Sanski Most area gather here for a communal Friday prayer.
