Djevojačka Cave, the Maiden's Cave, lies above the village of Brateljevići near Kladanj. Tradition tells of a girl who went into the cave to fetch water and never came back; she was buried beside the spring inside, and her grave, marked by two headstones, is still visited. Carvings at the entrance show that the cave was a sacred place long before Islam, from prehistoric times to the Middle Ages, and Arabic inscriptions were added in the Ottoman period. Every year, on the last Tuesday before Aliđun in late August, the Muslims of Kladanj and the surrounding area hold a great dova here, with tens of thousands of people gathering for prayer at the cave's mihrab. The cave is about 250 metres long and is reached by a short climb from the car park; it is unlit, so bring a torch.
