The wooden mosque of Karići stands high in the hills near Vareš and is linked by tradition with Hajdar Dede, a scholar said to have come with Sultan Mehmed al-Fatih at the conquest of Bosnia. It is built entirely of hewn timber, from foundation to roof, without nails. Old headstones in its harem date to 1716, and some records link it with the endowment of Gazi Husrev Bey. The mosque was burned to the ground in September 1993 and rebuilt in 2003 in its original form with traditional materials. Every year in the last week of July it hosts the Karići hatma dova, one of the best-known Muslim gatherings in Bosnia. The road from Dabravine on the Breza-Vareš road is signposted.
