Al-Jubaylah

After the passing of Nabi Muhammad ﷺ, Musaylimah, who claimed to be a prophet, gathered a large following among Banu Hanifah in al-Yamamah. Abu Bakr sent an army under Khalid ibn al-Walid against him, and the two sides met at Aqraba' in one of the hardest battles of early Islam. Musaylimah was killed and the revolt came to an end. Several hundred Muslims were martyred, among them Zayd ibn al-Khattab, the brother of Umar, and many who had memorised the Qur'an. Their loss led Abu Bakr to have the Qur'an gathered into a single written collection. Their graveyard lies at al-Jubaylah, north-west of Riyadh, in a walled enclosure.
