About Masjid Bani Zafar (Masjid al-Baghlah)

Banu Zafar were a clan of the Aws who lived on the eastern side of Madinah, beyond al-Baqi'. Nabi Muhammad ﷺ visited them and prayed in their mosque, and it is reported that he sat on a rock here to listen to the Qur'an being recited by one of his Companions. The mosque is also called Masjid al-Baghlah, the Mosque of the Mule, after marks on the rock that local tradition links to the Prophet's ﷺ mule. It stands about a kilometre east of al-Baqi', is small and rarely visited, and is best seen with a local guide.
