The Shaykh Ja'far mosque in the Abu al-Khasib district is counted by the Basra Heritage Centre among the inherited religious foundations of Basra, a mosque that has long served as a place of learning as well as prayer. It is open daily, with congregational prayers, sermons, lectures and gatherings on religious occasions. It lies in the palm-grove country of Abu al-Khasib, a short drive from the Nahr Khuz mosque.
