The Uwaysiyan mosque is one of the Ottoman-period mosques of Basra, founded in 1140 AH (1727) according to local accounts, and it has remained in use ever since for the daily and Friday prayers. Renovated over the years, it is counted among the city's heritage mosques, one of a small number in Basra that go back to Ottoman times, alongside the Maqam and Two Minarets mosques. It stands in the Uwaysiyan area south of the city centre, about 1.5 km south of the Basrah Museum.
