Mashhad al-Nuqtah, the Shrine of the Drop, stands on the slopes of Jabal Jawshan west of the old city of Aleppo. It is built around a stone which, according to tradition, bears a drop of blood from the blessed head of Sayyiduna al-Husayn, set down here when the captives of Karbala were being taken through northern Syria towards Damascus in 61 AH. The stone is kept in the shrine's prayer hall. The shrine stands a short walk from Mashhad al-Husayn, and nearby is Mashhad al-Muhassin, which tradition links with a child of Sayyiduna al-Husayn's household who was buried on this hillside. The shrines of Jabal Jawshan are visited by pilgrims throughout the year, especially during Muharram.
