Bab Qinnasrin is the southern gate of old Aleppo, named after the town of Qinnasrin to the south, which was the first Muslim capital of northern Syria. In its present form it dates from 1256, when the Ayyubid ruler of Aleppo rebuilt it as a strong fortified gate with a bent entrance passage. It is one of the best-preserved gates of the city, and from here visitors can explore the old walls and the souqs on foot.
